Assignment 4.0

Affinity Diagram:
Definition: Affinity diagram is a business tool in order to generate idea and data. This tool is used within the product or project management by using brainstorming of idea based on analysis, review, data and relationships.
Example of Affinity Diagram:

Affinity diagrams can be used to:
1.     Draw out common themes from a large amount of data and information.
2.     Brainstorming the root causes and solution to a problem which exactly same with the cause and effect diagram in QC tools.
3.     Discover previously unseen connections between various type of idea and information.
An affinity diagram is not only depending on brainstorming alone. They can also be used in any situation where:
1.     The solution of problem cannot solve the problem.
2.     There is a large volume of information to be sort through.

How to use the tool:
1.     Describe the problem.
2.     Generate idea and data information.
3.     Use figure to visualize the idea.
4.     Sort the idea which is the effective one.
5.     Create total group consensus.

6.     Create theme cards (affinity card).

Assignment 3.1

Product:
·        Tire Pressure detector device (Helicopter).

Functional Characteristics:
·        Can detect the air pressure in the tire so that we can know the pressure reading of the air pressure whether it is low or high.
·        Can immediately remind the driver to pump the air into tire if the tire is in low air pressure.

    Societal need:
·        Drivers do not have to go out from the car in order to check the air pressure in tire (Save time and energy).
·        Drivers do not have to dirty their hand in order to check the air pressure in tire by using hand.

·        Drivers do not have to do daily inspection toward the tire in order to check the condition of tire. (Save time, energy and cost).

Assignment 2.2

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS OF LCD PROJECTOR

INTRODUCTION

LCD projector is a type of LCD projectors are systems that display or project information or video onto a surface. LCD stands for liquid crystal display, the technology used to project images. They are the technological descendants of overhead and slide projectors, older systems which serve the same purpose. They are most commonly used for displaying images in presentations or lectures, but are also used in home theaters.

We are now targeting in producing generation of projectors that will overcome the technology of the previous one. With a better image quality, user-friendly functions and they will become the perfect tool for professional presentations at work and entertaining movie screenings at home. Our hardworking R&D is currently trying to create new technologies to serve new markets through innovative product development. All these, so customers will be able to present the sharpest and clearest images every time.

Substantial growth is assumption in the incoming years for LCD projectors, including business, home, and projection systems for large-screen LCD projection televisions. We are now seeks to extend its reach in the market for digital entertainment.

DEVELOPING TIME
For the development time of this LCD projector, it is need a lot of time in R&D due to lack of technologies, man power and fund. For the first production stage, we decided to invite manufacturers who make each components inside the projector for example imager chips or illumination systems and others in order to reduce the production time.

After the products are well known in the local and international market, company targeting to make full of use the utilization of capacity production. In the development time aspect, the most time consumed are during research and development of the new technologies. It is in term of the components durability, prices and quality. Besides that, the research in market condition must be take into account in order to ensure the new product could be competitive in the market. After the evaluation of the factors, the estimated development time for the production of new highly improved LCD projector is about 4 to 10 month before launching to the market.

Annual Units Sold.
LCD Projector is a product that has encouraging sales per year. Every year, the sales growth more than 15% annually for business, educational and domestic used which create many opportunities and profits.  Due to this, our company, CreativeCreationDesign takes chance to enter this market segment. For this, we had already done research and survey to identify customer’s needs and expectations nowadays.

According our surveys and studies, we manage to predict the annual unit sold could reach 36 000 unit for initial batch of production. Through this, we expect the average sales for each month about 3000 units per month. This prediction is reasonable due to sales of LCD projector from others big company like Samsung, Sony and NEC which monthly sales unit are higher.

Development Cost
Development cost is total of all cost incurred in order to process certain product. In this part, the developing cost is divided into three different categories which are direct workers cost, direct materials cost and manufacturing process cost.

1.      Direct workers cost: This type of cost is defined as the cost of the labour been identified with production of the product (LCD projector). In developing new LCD projector, we need a different type of manufacturing process which used a lot of machining. By using a large numbers of machines, the operator of machine should be increase.
2.      Direct materials: is the raw material that becomes the LCD projector which includes the electronic component and plastic material. This cost is important in order to estimate the budget of raw material of one unit LCD projector so that we can sell the product in a reasonable price.
3.      Manufacturing Cost: is the cost of all manufacturing process in order to make one unit of new LCD projector. In the market, we can sell the projector by having the price of RM 999 which will make the profit of RM 400.

Development Team
Development of LCD projector can have a lot of quality work done by having a well managed team. So that development practices can be done in short period of time. There are some phases need to go through in LCD projector production which are research and development, projector design, projector production and inspection. Besides, the team size is highly dependent on several other factors such as project size, project complexity, timeline, available skill sets and budget.

In making LCD projector, we assume there are 30 persons that will be in charged for development of team. This team is divided into four sub team. The first team is assigned in distributing and handling the survey. The customer needs then would be analyzed from the result of this survey. Next, the second team will be responsible for designing the LCD projector with specification that fulfills the customer needs. For inventing and manufacturing phase of LCD projector, third team will be in charged. The next phase is conducted by fourth team which is system analyst. Members of the team will do the checking part of the system in LCD projector whether it is working or not. When the LCD projectors are successfully working without failure, they will be released into the market.

Assignment 2.1

"Concurrent Engineering"

Concurrent engineering can be known as simultaneous engineering. It is a method of designing and developing products in which the different stages run simultaneously rather than consecutively. It decreases product development time and also the time to market, leading to improved productivity and reduced costs. Concurrent engineering can lead to certain benefits such as:

• Competitive Advantage- reduction in time to market means that businesses gain an edge over their competitors.
• Enhanced Productivity- earlier discoveries of design problems means potential issues can be corrected soon, rather than at a later stage in the development process.
• Decrease Design and Development Time- make products which match their customer’s needs, in less time and at a reduced cost.

Concurrent Engineering is a long term business strategy with long term benefits to business. Although initial implementation can be challenging, it bring benefit in the long term. It removes the need to have multiple design reworks, by creating an environment for designing a product right the first time round.

In today's business world, corporations must be able to react to the changing market needs rapidly, effectively, and responsively. They must be able to reduce their time to market and adapt to the changing environments.

Decisions must be made quickly and they must be done right the first time out. Corporations can no longer waits time repeating tasks, thereby prolonging the time it takes to bring new products to market. Therefore, concurrent engineering has emerged as way of bringing rapid solutions to product design and development process.
